There are two moments from Mike Johnson’s early days as speaker of the House that almost perfectly encapsulate the broken way that so many Republican evangelicals approach politics. But before she could finish, Johnson’s Republican colleagues started to shout her down. What does Mike Johnson think about any issue under the sun?’ I said, ‘Well, go pick up a Bible off your shelf and read it.’ That’s my worldview.”That quote is less illuminating than many people think. Mike Johnson and I have such similar religious convictions that we once worked together at the same Christian law firm. Yet we’ve taken very different political paths.

An ABC News reporter tried to ask GOP Rep. Mike Johnson about his efforts to overturn the 2020 election. In the end, 125 House Republicans, including then-House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, signed on to the Supreme Court brief. While House Republicans failed to overturn the results, 139 lawmakers voted to uphold challenges to at least one state. While a majority of House Republicans voted to object to both states, there were some notable exceptions. Emmer, who was then the leader of House Republicans campaign arm, was briefly the GOP's nominee to become speaker of the House on Tuesday.

DiotimaThe designer Rachel Scott’s focus on tailoring and craft — in particular, crochet made in her native Jamaica — has been clear since she launched her brand, Diotima, in 2021. But it wasn’t until she held her first presentation, at a gallery in New York’s Chelsea neighborhood earlier this month, that fashion week attendees were able to observe the line’s detailing up close: Models traversed the room in intricate bead vests and floor-length gowns made from delicate, netlike cotton fabrics. Scott, 39, formerly a vice president of design at Rachel Comey, also collaborated with the Jamaican visual artist Laura Facey this season, drawing inspiration from the work in Facey’s 2022 solo exhibition at the Kingston arts venue Ormsby Hall. “It had a haunting energy,” Scott said in a statement, “one that prompted me to reflect, once again, upon the history and legacy of slavery in the Caribbean.” Facey’s chalk drawing “Seed” (2022) appeared as a textile print, and the artist made small versions of her heart-shaped wooden sculptures, which Scott hung like talismans from long cord necklaces and silver hoop earrings.

Nikita Mazepin, 24, is trying to overturn the British sanctions so he can negotiate with Formula One teams to return to the sport in 2024. Mazepin is also challenging EU and Canadian sanctions as part of his attempt to return to Formula One. Scott said in court filings that Europe's second-highest court temporarily lifted some EU sanctions in March, allowing him to attend a specialist training facility in Italy. However, lawyers representing Britain's Foreign Office argued that Mazepin could still negotiate with Formula One teams with the sanctions in place. Another hearing is expected to take place in June to decide whether sanctions can be temporarily lifted pending Mazepin's full challenge, which will be heard in July.
